This weekend, Southwest Baptist University will host a women's conference that is free for all SBU students and members of the community.

"Eimi Dikalos," which means "I am righteous" in Greek, is the name for the conference which will run from Thursday, April 15 to Saturday, April 17 in Pike Auditorium.

The purpose of the conference is to provide fellowship for young women and to help them grow in their faith. There will also be prizes and giveaways, which include shopping vouchers, massages and free manicures.

Senior Brenda Boswell will be speaking each night at 7 p.m. while sophomore Jenna Barbosa, junior Kayla Griffen and junior Moe Diddy will lead worship.

Starting at 10 a.m. Saturday, six different workshops will be run by SBU employees. The workshops will deal with issues such as sex, identity, self worth, inner beauty and the honor of being a woman.

The person responsible for the launching of "Eimi Dikalos" is Boswell. A Resident Assistant at SBU's Casebolt Apartments, hails from Virginia Beach. She has a clear and honest passion to see young women find fullness in Christ.

"The goal of the conference is to speak truth into women's lives," Boswell said. "We want young women to know that righteousness is not determined by what we do, but by what God did for us."

Boswell was able to inspire a group of about 15 women to help her make the conference become a reality. Letters were sent out to SBU faculty and staff in a bid to raise money. Melanie Cook assisted in getting local churches involved.  Beasley Hall Resident Director Nicki Ward helped to organize the Beasley Sweetheart Pageant, which was also a fundraiser for the conference.

"It has been a lot of work organizing this conference, but it's been great having so many people help out," Boswell said. "We're not sure how many people will attend, but we're hoping to get at least 500 women."

Boswell hopes the conference will be an annual event. The group of women involved in organizing "Eimi Dikalos" this year will start raising funds after this weekend for future conferences.

"One of the things we have prayed about is that God will raise up young women to keep the conference going," Boswell said.

The conference, which starts at 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday and at 10 a.m. on Saturday, will be held in Pike Auditorium and is open to public.

I'm sorry, but "Eimi Dikalos" is spelled wrong. It should be, tranliterated from the Greek, "Eimi dikaios." Also, the word "dikalos" [sic.] is in the masculine form. (Continued…)
