In conjunction with the Hawaiian theme, palm trees and a sunset backdrop set the mood for the 2004 Mozarkian. The annual formal, sponsored by the Student Government Association, took place Saturday, April 17 at 7 p.m. in McClelland Dining Commons.

Seniors Jimmy Combs and Amy Davison were crowned Mozarkian King and Queen at the Mozarkian formal held April 17.

Guests were encouraged to dress either formally or in Hawaiian attire. Everyone was given a lei as they entered the dining hall. Guests then enjoyed Hawaiian salad and rice, kabobs, broccoli spears with cheese sauce, poppy seed muffins and a dessert buffet with everything from coconut cake to strawberry-French vanilla crème.

"The food was amazing," said sophomore Kylie Sheat, coordinator of this year's Mozarkian. "Dennis (Owens) and Collegiate Catering did such a good job helping me plan the food and preparing it. That was my favorite part."

The dinner was followed by the crowning of the Mozarkian King and Queen. Seniors Jimmy Combs and Amy Davison were elected as royalty from the five senior men and five senior women nominated by fellow students.

This year's court consisted of seniors Annie Blankenship, Jana Harkrader, Jessica Douglas, Davison, Stephanie Jackson, Micah Waters, Cooper Carver, Bill Jefferson, Combs and Kevin McMahon.

Combs is a church recreation major. In the future Combs hopes to "walk up a ramp to shake C. Pat's hand and receive a $50,000 piece of paper," he said.

As king, Combs has building plans. "First, as King of all Mozarko, I would like to build a castle out by the Walk of Life, complete with moat and draw-bridge," he said. "But most importantly, I plan to represent SBU with the utmost dignity befitting a king."

Davison is a theatre major from Wichita, Kan. In the future, Davison hopes to "attend graduate school, and hopefully, I will get married, hint, hint," she said.

After the coronation, comedian Paul Aldrich took the stage.  He kept the laughs coming with his jokes, song renditions and imitations of everyone from Britney Spears to Elvis Presley.

Although last year's formal had about 50 more people in attendance, this year's Mozarkian was a hit, according to some students.

"I thought it was fun," sophomore Kendra Dotson said. "I liked the comedian, he was pretty funny."
