Corts to speak at SBU commencement

Dr. Paul R. Corts, assistant attorney general for administration, will be the featured speaker at Southwest Baptist University's spring commencement. The May 22 ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. on the Merrill Burnidge Memorial Forum on the Bolivar campus.Dr. Paul R. Prior to entering government service, Corts had a long and distinguished career in higher education, including service as president of Palm Beach Atlantic University and Wingate University. He also has held teaching and administrative positions at Oklahoma Baptist University, Western Kentucky University and Indiana University.

Active in civic and professional matters, he served as the president of the American Association of Presidents in Independent Colleges and Universities, as chair of the Independent Colleges and Universities of Florida and on Florida's business leadership group, The Council of 100.

In Washington, Corts serves on the President's Management Council, Council of Chief Financial Officers and various other federal and departmental organizations. President Bush also has appointed him to serve on the Board of Directors of the Federal Prisons Industries.

Born in Terre Haute, Ind., Corts graduated from Georgetown College in Georgetown, Ky., and received his master's and doctoral degrees from Indiana University. Corts and his wife, Diane, have three grown children and they reside in Arlington, Va.
