After securing their position following the MIAA Championships, the team had one week to prepare for regionals before traveling to Northern Kentucky University.
After day one, the Bearcats were tied for fifth place overall shooting a 314 as a team with Missouri Southern leading the field with a 297. Adding to this great accomplishment, senior Dusty Smith and junior Nick Layman tied for second place overall among individual players, each shooting a 73 for the round.
The action only escalated more on day two as the competition got tougher.
The Bearcats slipped to seventh place overall after shooting a 328 for the second round. Smith turned in an 84 for his round, dropping him out of his tie for second and into 13th. Layman, however, continued his strong play by shooting a 74 and moved up into a tie for first place.
"If Nick has another good round, he will go onto the National Tournament," SBU Head Coach Kevin Cribbs said. "Seventh place is a little disappointing after being in fifth, but we gave away a lot of strokes."
The Regional Tournament concluded play on Wednesday, May 5, but results from round three and the overall leader board were not available at time of print.
