Men's tennis nets five MIAA First-teamers, including MVP

Picking up more MIAA awards after the MIAA Men's Tennis Championship, the Southwest Baptist University Bearcats had five players selected to the All-MIAA First-Team with one team member being named the leagues' Most Valuable Player. This marks the second year in a row that an SBU player has received the MVP award.

Junior Dante Cipulli, ranked number two in the nation in singles, was voted MIAA MVP. Last year, senior Andras Bori was given the award. Cipulli, Bori and senior Mark Eori were unanimously selected to the first team. Cipulli was selected at first singles and second doubles, Bori at third singles and first doubles, and Eori at second singles and first doubles. Also named to the First Team were sophomore Peter Joos and junior Johan Nortje. Joos was selected at fifth singles and Nortje at second doubles.

SBU also had three selections to the MIAA Second team. Joos, Nortje and junior Brian Harrelson added their names to that list. Joos and Harrelson were honored at third doubles and Nortje at fourth singles.

For the second year in a row, SBU Head Coach John Bryant was named MIAA "Coach of the Year."

The Bearcats will continue their season May 7-8 when they host the NCAA Division II North Central Regional at the John Bryant Tennis Center.

For the Lady Bearcat tennis team, SBU senior Lindsay Hickel was the lone representative from SBU. She was awarded the MIAA Sportsmanship award for her actions in the 2003-04 season.
