Childress and Hines recognized in MIAA

Junior Dustin Childress of Falcon, Mo. was named to the All-MIAA First Team in baseball for his achievements in the 2004 season. He is the second player in Southwest Baptist University Head Coach Sam Berg's era to be named to the MIAA First-Team.

Childress was one of three pitchers named to the first team with the other two pitchers being from Central Missouri State. Childress finished the 2004 season with a 9-3 record and a 3.15 ERA. He recorded 91 strikeouts in 94.1 innings pitched in 18 appearances.

Childress now holds Southwest Baptist University single season records in strikeouts (91), innings pitched (94.1) and games started (15). He tied the SBU record for wins in a season with nine.

He transferred to SBU from Tennessee Temple where he was an All-South Regional selection.

Also being selected to the MIAA team was junior outfielder Jason Hines. A junior transfer from Northeastern Junior College, Hines started all 52 games and batted .296 with 12 home runs and 35 RBI. He also had 12 doubles. As a pitcher, he finished with a 2-7 record and a 6.97 ERA.

SBU finished the season at 18-34 overall and 7-20 in the MIAA.
