Heading into the final round of play, junior Nick Layman was tied for first place in the NCAA Division II Regional Golf Tournament at Northern Kentucky University, and the Southwest Baptist University Bearcats were in seventh place as a team.

The final day ended with a drop in rank for both Layman and the Bearcats. Layman shot an 84 in the final round to move him down from first place to a tie for 14th, while the team as a whole dropped one spot to finish in eighth.

"It was a disappointing finish team-wise," SBU Head Coach Kevin Cribbs said. "Nick had one bad day that dropped him, but it will be great motivation for him for next year."

Senior Dusty Smith finished in a tie for 20th place overall.

The Bearcats are currently in the recruiting process with players who are still competing in state tournaments.

"Things look pretty good for next year," Cribbs said. "Senior David Coutchie will be back alongside Nick."

With the team to resume regular practices when school starts in the fall, Cribbs says he is not worried about their work ethics for the summer.

"They all like to play," Cribbs said. "They will be in tournaments over the summer and be ready for next year."
