SBU soccer shuts out Miners

The Southwest Baptist University Lady Bearcat soccer team remained undefeated in MIAA play after a 5-0 shut-out victory over the University of Missouri-Rolla. Ranked 25th in the national Adidas / NSCAA Division II poll, the 'Cats erupted with four goals in the first half to gain their seventh victory of the season.

Sophomore Stephanie Lusardi scored for SBU in the 19th minute on an assist from junior Vanessa Toll. Three minutes later, sophomore Pip Meo netted an unassisted goal to increase the 'Cats' lead to two. Junior Ashley Munnelly scored her first goal of the game in the 25th minute on an assist from Meo. Munnelly added another goal on an assist from junior Priscilla Duncan before halftime to give SBU a 4-0 lead.The second half saw SBU add its fifth and final goal. Sophomore Kendall Mims and junior Victoria Bright assisted Munnelly with ten minutes left in the game to give her the hat trick.

SBU's defense held tight, allowing only eight shots compared to the 22 shots taken by the 'Cats' offense. Junior goalie Sara Eppler recorded her third shutout of the season.

SBU is taking a break from the action this week as three team members are currently playing for the New Zealand national team in exhibition play this week. Duncan, Meo, and freshman Hayley Moorwood will represent their home country against the United States women's national team in two games.

The 'Cats will resume play with a home match against Central Missouri State on Oct. 12 at 4 p.m.
