Volleyball falls to 1-19 after four straight hard losses this weekend

On Sept. 30, SBU played against nationally-ranked Truman State, and lost in straight games, 30-13, 30-18 and 30-19. The hard attacking Lady Bulldogs dominated SBU the entire match and managed to get all of their 17 players into the game. Senior Jenny Madrid led the Lady 'Cats in kills with ten, and sophomore Misti Baser led the team with 17 digs. Freshman Chelsea Kenney contributed 15 assists in the effort. With the win, TSU improved to a perfect 15-0 on the season and 6-0 in the MIAA while SBU fell to 1-16 and 0-6.
Friday night saw SBU face off against opponent Northwest Missouri State. SBU played NWMSU close in this match, taking game two. But the Bearcats of NWMSU were too much for the lady cats as they pulled out the victory, 30-24, 28-30, 30-24 and 30-22. Madrid had 20 kills in the match and freshman Jennifer Bassett contributed nine kills. Kenney contributed 30 assists and sophomore Candace Zane had 10 assists. Baser again led the team in digs with 16 and added 10 digs. NWMSU left Bolivar with an 11-10 and 3-4 record.
Saturday, SBU faced off against Missouri Western State College. The Griffons came in with a similar record to NWMSU and SBU had hope of victory. However, MWSC cruised to a 30-23, 30-25 and 30-28 win. Madrid again led the team in kills with 11. Bassett contributed eight kills. Kenney had all but three of the total assists in the matches, finishing 23 total assists. Zane led the team in digs with 13 while Kenney also contributed defensively with 12 digs. Baser dug out 11 balls. MWSC returned home to St. Joseph with an 11-6 and 2-5 record while SBU fell to 1-18 and 0-8.
Tuesday night the 'Cats were again in action in the Meyer Wellness and Sports Center Intramural Gym, this time against non-conference local opponent Drury University. Drury handed SBU their 19th loss of the season with winning scores of 30-16, 30-26 and 30-18. Madrid led all kills with 13. Kenney had all but 3 of the total assists with 22. Baser led in digs with 12. Drury came out of the match with a 6-12 record.
The Lady Cats will play again Tuesday, Oct. 12, in Joplin as they take on Missouri Southern.
