Roomates, dorm announcements and cable without MTV are accepted nuisances in Beasley Hall. However, putting aside the occasional electrical fire, Beasley fourth east is facing a new threat: flies and wasps.

There are so many wasps that residents Darcie Sperber, Lindsey Wainscott and Libby Jackson are keeping a tally. "We've killed 16 so far," said Sperber.

Last year, when Marilyn McGinnis lived in the room Sperber lives in now, 100 wasps were killed. "Compared to last year, this is nothing," Wainscott said.

The girls are doing more than killing wasps, they are calling maintenance. According to Sperber, "Hazel has called maintenance at least three times, and we've called at least four times."

Amazingly, none of the girls have been stung trying to get rid of the unwelcome guests.

Some of the girls on the hall are opening their blinds, only to find 20 or more flies resting on their window.

"It is okay," said Elyse Guffey. "Because we found fly swatters and flip flops. We have fly massacre."

Unlike the wasps, this is the first year flies have joined the wasps in Beasley Hall.

"It has made me realize that flies are really gross," said Guffey. "They never touch our food."

The tradition of these unwelcomed guests continues for this year.
