The Beasley Hall Babes showcased some of the latest fashions while promoting breast cancer awareness during the fashion show held Nov. 3 in the Goodson Student Union.
The show, which served as Beasley's fall semester education project, was used to raise money for Project Mammogram, which donates money to women who cannot afford to have yearly breast examinations.
Though the show was run by the Beasley staff, 17 Bolivar businesses helped by donating door prizes and decorations.
Bolivar's TM Clothing donated all clothes used in the event.
Admission to the fashion show was $1 for students and $2 for Bolivar and community residents. All the show's proceeds went to Project Mammogram.
Beasley Resident Assistants serving as models for the show were juniors Heather Ferguson, Amy Ezell, Alissa Smith and Julianne McCampbell and sophomores Kayla Hawthorne and Karla Kerr.
Southwest Baptist University Assistant Director of Ministries Deanna Collins and five Bolivar High School students also modeled.
"It was something really fun to do on a week night that supported a good cause," sophomore Abby Gilmore said. "And it was fun to see our RA's model."
Approximately 75 people came to the show.
'The turn out was good, although I know having it on a Wednesday night made it difficult for those who went to church," Beasley Resident Director Nicky Ward said.
The first part of the show featured local vendors representing their business' products and services with different booths.
A speaker with the American Cancer Society encouraged the crowd to help more women get mammograms.
"It was a great experience, even though it took a lot of work," Ward said. "It forced us to bridge the gap between SBU and Bolivar. It brought us together with women and men in the community who want to help others. I hope we can continue to use our programs as an opportunity to be involved with people outside of SBU."
