On Saturday, Nov. 6, the Southwest Baptist University Goodson Student Union was turned into an auction block.

Hosted by the SBU Student Government Association, the auction was overseen by senior Andrew Gibler and freshman Richard Marks.

For the event being on a weekend, the number of students who attended the event was satisfying to SGA members.

According to senior George Smith, SGA treasurer, the event was not held to be a fund raiser.

"It was an activity for students here during the weekend," Smith said. "It was something fun for them to do and buy clothes at a cheap price."

"Quite a few people showed up for it being a weekend," Gibler said. "With people coming and going, I would say about 50 people showed up."

Items included in the auction were primarily clothes, but also included vests, shirts, purses, ties and belts. Other items available included scarfs, hats and t-shirts.

The auction involved four student models, who were picked by junior Ryan Brown, SGA vice president and campus activities chair.

Sophomores Jordan Layman, Amy Yoss, Danny Burkhead and Joey Brown all modeled the auctionable items.

According to Gibler, "the models had much pizazz trying to spice up the clothing they wore with style."

All of the items came from various thrift stores in Springfield and Kansas City. Freshman Jessica Gibler and sophomore Lauren Baer decided to go shopping, after being given $100 by SGA campus activities.

"They went shopping with $100, and came back with about $35, "Gibler said. "Jessica then went and spent the remaining money."

While SGA spent $100 for the event, they made approximately $65 of that back.

"The event cost us about $35 to do, since we made close to $65," Gibler said

Overall, SGA considers the event a success.

"I was excited just to be a goofball," Gibler said.

"I hope we will be able to do this event again," Smith said. "People seemed to have a lot of fun."
