The Southwest Baptist volleyball Bearcats finished their 2004 season with two road losses.

The 'Cats fell 3-0 to Drury in a Nov. 4 match. The game scores were 30-14, 30-27 and 30-24. SBU Head Coach Leslie Howe said of the match, "We just had a difficult time blocking and defending their attacks."

Senior Jenny Madrid led SBU with 15 kills, freshman Chelsea Kenney had 26 assists and sophomore Emily Yates had 15 digs.

The 'Cats fell 3-0 to Rockhurst University Nov. 6 in their last match of the season.

"Rockhurst was ranked 22nd in the nation, so we knew going in it would be a battle. We passed well and our defense really picked it up. Our front row contributed with their blocking."

Madrid and sophomore Morgan Yattaw each had six kills, Kenney had 19 assists and sophomore Misti Baser had 13 digs.

The 'Cats finished their 2004 season with an overall 1-31 record and an MIAA mark of 0-17.

"It had ups and downs, and now it's over," said Howe. "Our record might not show it, but we had some major improvements this year from last. We're going to build on the things we excelled in this season, and work on the things that we lacked in. Be ready for the 2005 season, because we are on a mission."
