Southwest Baptist University had 17 athletes named to either a first, second or Honorable Mention All-MIAA team.
The list was headlined by sophomore soccer star Pip Meo who took home more than just a first team All-MIAA award. Meo was also named MIAA Most Valuable Player in women's soccer for her efforts in the 2004 season. Meo led the MIAA in points, was second in the conference in goals, finished fourth in assists and set a school record for goals scored in a season. She also won the MIAA "Player of the Week" award three times.
Also among the other SBU headliners was freshman Hayley Moorwood, who captured the MIAA Freshman of the Year award. She became the third freshman in a row to win the award for SBU. Vanessa Toll won the award in 2002 and Meo won it last year.
The football Bearcats were also recognized with eight SBU players being named to an All-MIAA team.
Junior Ulexis Williams was the lone All-MIAA first team member with junior offensive lineman Mark Talbert being named the second team.
Some notable absences from the All-MIAA teams were junior goalkeeper Sara Eppler, freshman center Daryl Porter and sophomore quarterback Robert Clardy. Eppler had nine shutouts in 20 games and Porter was the only SBU starting offensive lineman not named to an All-MIAA team. Porter was part of an offensive line that helped SBU's running game average 195 yards per contest. Clardy led the 'Cats in rushing with 737 yards. He also had nine rushing touchdowns, threw for 1,770 yards and had five touchdown passes.
The number of SBU athletes honored by the MIAA may grow over the next few days with the All-MIAA cross country and volleyball teams to be announced later this week.
