Former student dies in car accident Feb. 2

Former Southwest Baptist University student Dustin Hickman died in a car accident Friday, Feb. 2.
Hickman and the driver, his friend Brandon Roughton, were involved in a one-vehicle accident at 2:10 a.m. on Highway 76, four miles east of Longview in McDonald County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report, "[Roughton's truck] traveled off the right side of the roadway and overturned, ejecting [Hickman, his] passenger."
McDonald County Coroner B.J. Goodwin pronounced Hickman dead at the scene. Roughton was transported to Freeman West Hospital in Joplin in serious condition.
Neither passenger was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident, the patrol said.
Hickman, from Pea Ridge, Ark., attended SBU as a freshman. He wore number 97 on the SBU football field as a defensive lineman.
