Southwest Baptist University students have been given the opportunity to help raise money for scholarships at the 2007 Phone-a-thon.
Directed by Theresa Daniels, director of annual fund, students are gathering to call friends and alumni of SBU across the country and ask for donations for the University's unrestricted student aid fund.
The student aid fund is used for institutional student scholarships, including departmental, athletic and music scholarships.
"The purpose of raising the scholarship money is to help students keep tuition costs low," said Daniels.
The student aid fund can also be accessed in the event of unexpected expenses.
This year, Daniels and her team of student callers have a goal of $100,000. Last year, friends and alumni donated almost $78,000.
Student callers were chosen by application. They are paid $6.50 an hour and work only on days they are available.
The Phone-a-thon began on Feb. 12 and will run through March 15 on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
