Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) will host a financial planning session from 7 to 8:15 p.m. February 20 and 22 in Davis Theater in Goodson Student Union.
At the Feb. 20 session, those in attendance will have the opportunity to learn about job benefits and career development. Jeremy MacLaughlin, director of human resources at Citizens Memorial Hospital in Bolivar will be the speaker.
"The purpose of this is to prepare students so they will be better prepared when they look for a job after college," said senior James Faughtenberry. "You shouldn't just look at salary, but other benefits being provided by employers."
Faughtenberry will speak at the Feb. 22 session. Using his experience as a tax professional at H and R Block and taking a biblical perspective, Faughtenberry will answer questions such as, "do I have to file tax return forms, what is a standard deduction, what are credits and will I have to pay in or will I get a return?"
"[At the second session] students will learn to plan for and know how to account for income," said Faughtenberry. "We will teach them how to plan wisely for when it is time to file tax return forms."
SBU students, faculty, staff and community members are invited to attend both sessions. There is no cost and refreshments will be served. For more information, contact Faughtenberry at (417)496-0895 or by e-mail at psalm1mac@yahoo.com.
