The Southwest Baptist baseball team started their season with a double-header last Saturday at Harding University. The games were originally scheduled to be played at SBU, but were moved to Harding due to the warmer weather in Arkansas.
The 'Cats dropped both games in the double-header by the scores of 6-0 and 5-4.
In the first game, SBU never managed to get their offense going and managed only five hits off of Harding's starter. Junior Chris Martinez was the only Bearcat to get on track connecting on the only two extra-base hits of the game for SBU.
All-MIAA junior pitcher Zane Montgomery struggled in his first action of the year, giving up eight hits, six runs (four earned) and hitting six batters.
SBU started the scoring in the second game when senior Spencer Wilkins singled in Martinez and senior Skyler Powers. The Bearcats added another in the fourth and led 3-0 going into the bottom of the inning.
The 'Cats were unable to hold their lead as they gave up two runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth.
The loss went to junior starter James Tedford who gave up four runs in five innings.
The 'Cats will next be in action Feb. 20 when they host Drury University at noon.
