The week of March 5-9 marks what Southwest Baptist University's Psi Chi hopes to become an annual Ethics Week. Ethics Week will be held all over campus and will involve many of SBU clubs and organizations.
"Ethics week came from the association of college honor societies," said Dr. Shelly Kilpatrick, sponsor of Psi Chi.
The Association for College Honor Societies is a sponsor of Psi Chi. The association is encouraging colleges all over the country to get involved with Ethics Week, so SBU's Psi Chi and the Sociology and Criminal Justice Society decided to host an Ethics Week at SBU.
The SBU Faculty Senate has endorsed Ethics Week and encouraged faculty members to discuss ethics in their classes during that week.
"The hope is that students will be getting ethics from all directions," said Kilpatrick.
SGA will be hosting a Pizza Bash for SBU students to attend Friday, March 9.
SIFE, along side Delta Mu Delta, will be getting involved by hosting a Clue-type game called "Mysterious Ethics." There will be a skit performed in Goodson Student Union at 4:45 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, at 12:45 p.m. and on Tuesday and Thursday at 12:20 p.m.
Every skit will depict different ethical decisions, all leading to one big choice at the end. Students can participate in the skits by answering a questionnaire that will put the their names in a drawing for a $50 grand prize on Friday. Some of the events will be specific for certain clubs and organizations while others will include the entire campus.
"The goal of this week is to create an environment so that everywhere people go, they can not avoid ethics," said Kilpatrick.
The first ethics topic to be covered will be mandated reports of child abuse discussed during the Feb 27 CRV meeting in Meyer Recital Hall.
