High school students from across the nation visited Southwest Baptist University Feb. 18-19 for the university's annual Bearcat Days.
Sponsored by the Office of Admissions, Bearcat Days gives prospective SBU students a chance to experience dorm life, attend classes, Chapel and eat a meal at Mellers Dining Commons.
On Sunday, Feb. 18, prospects attended a pizza bash in Goodson Student Union and played The Amazing Race in Meyer Wellness and Sports Center. Following games, prospective students went with their host students to their respective dorms for games.
On Monday, Feb. 19, students attended Chapel and had the opportunity to attencd two classes.
"The Bearcat days were a great time to see what SBU is all about," said prospective student Jacob Richert, a senior at Jefferson City High School. "I got to spend time with a current student, and learn a lot about the atmosphere and academics of SBU."
Parents who attended the weekend participated in a question and answer session with SBU administration members Rob Harris, dean of students; Dr. Gordon Dutile, provost; Brad Gamble, director of financial aid, and Darren Crowder, director of admissions.
After classes, prospective students and parents went to Mellers Dining Commons for lunch and attended a closing session in Meyer Recital Hall.
One hundred thirty-five prospects visited the University during the two-day visitation.
"Bearcat Days is [mostly] for people that have already applied to SBU," said Crowder. "A large percentage of them end up coming to SBU."
