Another week, another record. A week after breaking the school record in the 600-yard run, freshman Jenny Blair had another outstanding day. Blair broke her own school record in the 200-meter dash by running 25.78 seconds. Her time in the 200 took nearly three-fourths of a second off of her old record. Then, in the 400-meter dash, Blair broke an 18 year-old record by clocking 58.75 seconds.
Also having an outstanding day for the lady Bearcats was junior Alyssa Maggart. Maggart ran the 800-meters for the 'Cats and recorded an indoor personal-best of two minutes, 17.79 seconds. Maggart's time puts her just .79 seconds away from provisionally qualifying for National Collegiate
Athletic Association Division II nationals and breaks the old school record by over two seconds. Her time also gives her the third fastest time in the conference this year.
Freshman Jennifer Gillespie also had a great day as she ran two indoor personal-bests. Her 200-meter dash time of 26.43 would have been a new school record if not for Blair's performance. Gillespie also competed in the 400-meter dash and broke the minute barrier by crossing the line in 59.40 seconds.
The next record to broken was the 600-meter run. Freshman Mallory Roth and junior Lisa Bunn both broke the former school record, but Roth was able to finish .05 seconds ahead of Bunn with a time of one minute, 41.49 seconds.
In the one mile run, the Bearcats had two freshmen run their fastest time of the year. Courtney Ayers (five minutes, 28.08 seconds) and Chelsea Strahm (5:30.08) finished 19th and 21st respectively.
The 'Cats ended the evening by doing what they do best; breaking another record. The all-freshmen 4x400-meter relay team of McCall Towe, Roth, Gillespie and Blair were able to finish in 4 minutes, 5.11 seconds and break the school record for the third time this year.
The Bearcats will look to continue their record-breaking ways as they head to the University of Central Missouri for the Mid-America Innercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) championships this weekend.
