Southwest Baptist University students will see a 6.5 percent increase in cost for the 2007-08 academic year. According to Ron Maupin, vice president for administration, total fees for the 2007-08 school year will be $19,500, a $1,200 increase from 2006-07.
Two former Southwest Baptist University students have been charged with first-degree assault for their alleged involvement in the April 13, 2006 beating of a Bolivar man outside Cowboys 2000, a Springfield nightclub, according to court records. Rony Saintil and Henry Warren Patten were indicted by a Greene County grand jury in October.

A new staff member has been welcomed to the staff of Southwest Baptist University's Information and Technology Services Department. Cathy Floyd has been hired as administrative assistant to Dr. Robert McGlasson, vice president for Information and Technology Services.
Southwest Baptist University will host a Songwriters' Showcase at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 6 in Goodson Student Union. At the coffee house show, students will perform self-written songs in the annual competition. "This is an opportunity for [the students] to have their song-writing ability heard," said senior Karen Marker, concert chair.
Several Southwest Baptist organizations are collaborating to present an ethics event that will run March 5 - 9 on the SBU campus. Faculty will be emphasizing ethical topics in their classes. Topics for student events will include plagiarism, a songwriter's showcase, applied ethics in a current contentious issue for our culture, ethics in physical therapy, ethics in medicine and others.
With spring-like weather in bloom in Southwest Missouri, Southwest Baptist University Student Government Association is springing into action with numerous activities. The Songwriters' Showcase concert will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 6 in Goodson Student Union.
Construction is underway at Southwest Baptist University's Jim Mellers Center. Killian Construction Company began work on the inside of the building in October 2006. Projected to be finished by the fall 2007 semester, renovations to JMC include a new heating and cooling system, faculty offices on the same floor, classrooms more conducive for learning and fellowship areas for students, faculty and staff.
Southwest Baptist University enrollment for the spring 2007 semester is up 61 students from the spring 2006 semester. A total of 1,391 undergraduate students are enrolled at SBU's Bolivar campus. This is a 4.6 percent increase from last spring's 1,330 students.
