Killian Construction Company began work on the inside of the building in October 2006.
Projected to be finished by the fall 2007 semester, renovations to JMC include a new heating and cooling system, faculty offices on the same floor, classrooms more conducive for learning and fellowship areas for students, faculty and staff.
According to SBU President Dr. C. Pat Taylor, the company is three workdays behind schedule. The company sends Taylor a weekly report, and according the report, construction on JMC will be finished the first or second week of May.
"They're coming along great," said Taylor. "There's no reason they won't get it done according to their original schedule."
SBU raised over $1,260,700 to renovate the building. The University received $200,000 from the Mabee Foundation, and private donations in the amounts of $400,000 and $250,000 were donated.
JMC was built in 1984. It was designed to be a conference center and was not configured well for an academic setting.
"They're for sure not going to have a problem having it ready in time for the fall semester," said Taylor. "It's looking great, I'm really pleased with the way it's going to look."
