Lady 'Cats drop regular season finale

The nationally-ranked Emporia State Hornets came to town last Saturday to round out the home schedule for the Southwest Baptist women's basketball team. The Bearcats hung within three points in the first five minutes. Then the Hornets went on a 19-10 run, giving them a 10-point lead with five minutes to go in the first half.

Bryant named to NCAA Division II selection committee

The spotlight of NCAA athletics is again shining on John Bryant. Southwest Baptist's nationally-acclaimed tennis coach was recently called to serve on the NCAA Division II National Tennis Selection Committee, an eight-member panel that chairs the eight Division II regions in the United States.

Sanderson named Most Oustanding Performer

The Southwest Baptist men's track and field team took a giant step forward this past weekend at the MIAA championship meet. Solid performances came from many places: a senior had his furthest throw of the year, a sophomore had a great race in the mile and a freshman placed in the 800, but all of these performances clearly take a backseat to the outstanding performance of senior T.

SBU softball team falls two times at Lincoln

The Lady 'Cat softball team lost a twinbill to Lincoln University, 2-4 and 4-8. Senior Amanda Orchard went the distance in the first game and was charged with the loss. Orchard gave up four runs (two earned), walked four, and recorded no strikeouts in six innings.

Women's DMR team shines

The Southwest Baptist women's track and field team experienced the full spectrum of emotions this past weekend at the MIAA championships. On one hand, there were four women who earned All-MIAA honors ,and on the other hand there was freshman Jenny Blair. Blair has arguably been the best freshman in the conference this year.

Seniors ready for postseason

Senior Jason Jemison was a little weary about playing on Senior Night, Feb. 24, against Emporia State. "Coach said he's never really had good Senior Nights," said Jemison. Fellow senior Jared Young was woozy for another reason; he had the flu. Jesus Lopez, the third senior on the team, said he was focused.

SBU baseball splits with Arkansas Tech

The Southwest Baptist University Bearcats split a twinbill with Arkansas Tech this week, and moved their record to 3-6 on the season. The Bearcats' ace junior Zane Montgomery started game one, and pitched well. In 6 2/3 innings, Montomery gave up two earned runs and two walks while striking out six.
