The Adidas jacket was a fun trend, I must admit; at least it probably was for the kids who actually owned one. I was not so fortunate.
I remember these days because they were the good days. They were the days before responsibilities intruded our lives. They were the days of stirrup pants and scrunched socks. They were the days of tight rolled pants and skater cuts. They were the days of slap-bracelets and - I'm going to say it - they were the days of JNCO Jeans. We won't even go there.
Although I was never a big pog collector, and I never owned the everyone-who's-anyone-has-one Adidas jacket until I got it as a hand-me-down and it was out of style (insert sympathy), I still thoroughly enjoyed those days.
We were carefree then and had nothing more important to do than a few math problems for homework, followed by hours at the mall or skating rink, or on the street playing hockey and basketball with the neighbor kids.
Maybe it is the fact that I will soon be graduating in May (God-willing) that has caused me to reflect upon "the good ol' days," but it has been a good reflection.
Let us not forget our carefree days, my 1980s friends, and let us continue to at least attempt to find joy in the small things, the pog things, as we continue this game of life and pursue our futures after "big school."
