Dr. David Whitlock, dean of the college of business and computer science, recently published "Opportunity." The textbook teaches business and free enterprise using a Christian worldview.

With companies taking the fall, and many employees finding themselves in the position of the scapegoat, the business world can be a frightening place.
Dr. David Whitlock, dean of the college of business and computer science, is passionate about changing this mentality. Whitlock's recently published textbook, "Opportunity," is unlike normal textbooks. It is described by Whitlock as a "shotgun" text. It the covers a lot of material, but does not go into the topics on a deep level.
Whitlock uses a story line throughout the textbook to help readers understand the text.
Whitlock said the hardest part about the book publishing process was nailing down a publisher because the textbook has a theological basis.
The book is already in use at Southwest Baptist University by Angie Carr, adjunct instructor for the department of business administration, even though it is still in manuscript form.
"Writing this book was energizing, and very enjoyable," said Whitlock.
Whitlock wrote the textbook with a concern for the business community. He hopes the textbook will show students that backstabbing in business is not required to be successful.
Whitlock states in the preface, "The intent is to tell the story of business and the principles of free enterprise in the context of a Christian worldview."
