Bearcats' tennis teams set for home openers

Issue date: 3/9/07 Section: Sports
Battling injuries and adverse weather conditions, the Southwest Baptist men's and women's tennis teams played decently in Oklahoma last week.
The Bearcat men picked up two wins in a four-team meet March 2-3 while the Lady Bearcats picked up a win and a loss.
With their top singles player battling tendonitis and their number three player suffering from a severely sprained ankle, the SBU men managed to pull off a 5-4 win over the East Central State Tigers.
Playing through the tendonitis in his elbow, freshman Alex Kacamakis was able to salvage a 7-6, 6-2 victory in his number one singles match. Junior Daniel Prerad, normally SBU's number three singles player, was dropped to the number five slot due to his injured ankle. In a gutsy effort, Prerad pulled out a 7-5, 3-6, 6-3 win. The 'Cats also got singles wins from sophomores Emilio El Alabi (4-6, 6-4, 6-1) and Agustin Mollar (4-6, 7-5, 6-3) at number two and three singles. Sophomore Alan Mohadeb (4-6, 1-6) and freshman Micah AuBuchon (1-6, 0-6) fell in their number four and six singles matches.
In doubles, SBU lost two of its three matches. Kacamakis and Mohadeb fell 8-5 in number one doubles while Prerad and AuBuchon fell 8-1 at number three. El Alabi and Mollar, however, doubled up their ECS opponents 8-4 in their number two match as the 'Cats took a 5-4 meet win.
Taking on the St. Mary's Rattlers in their second meet, the 'Cats captured five of their six singles and two of their three doubles matches en route to a 7-2 victory.
In singles, Kacamakis (6-2, 6-0), El Alabi (4-6, 6-3, 10-4), Mollar (6-0, 6-0), Mohadeb (6-0, 3-6, 10-8) and Prerad (6-3, 1-6, 6-2) all garnered victories with AuBuchon (3-6, 2-6) getting the lone loss.
In doubles, El Alabi and Mollar (8-1) and Kacamakis and Prerad (8-0) were both victorious with Mohadeb and AuBuchon (7-9) falling short in their match.
In their third and final meet, the 'Cats took on the nationally-ranked Cameron Aggies, the host team. Battling a frosty wind-storm and fatigue, the 'Cats fell to the Aggies 5-0 in a match that saw only two of six possible singles flights played. Mollar (4-6, 3-6) and AuBuchon (3-6, 7-5, 4-6) both fell in their singles matches.
