Southwest Baptist University held a choir concert in Pike Auditorium for the Concert Choir March 13. The choir filed onto the risers and took their positions according to pitch levels, as led by director Michael Mays, instructor of voice. Freshman Jon Davis manned the piano, and the show was underway without a hitch.
Most of the songs were worldly pieces that I have never heard of, but they sounded very nice.
The concert was a good mix of classical music. Most of them were introduced with a story from the conductor, although some of the introductions were a little lengthy and a bit forced, the songs came in good time.
As the concert continued, the audience was serenaded by the classic sound of the ensemble.. As they moved through the concert, I noticed that the performances continued to smooth out into a great blend of piano and song.
Although there were not any solos, everyone sounded great, and it seemed very well rehearsed. The singers gave me a sense of professionalism that I was not expecting.
After several songs, they announced the last song, and, to be honest, I was a little disappointed. The concert did not seem like it was that long and I think they could have gotten away with adding a couple more songs to the performance list.
Despite the fact that I am not a connoisseur of choir concerts, I was pleasantly surprised by the performance, and I would not mind going to another one.
