Bronn Journey and his wife, Katherine are a wonderfully talented couple from the Pacific Northwest whose lives revolve around music, and the latest revolution has brought them to Bolivar.
They came with 2 harps, a piano and a warm sense of humor. The show itself was great, but the best part was the atmosphere. Normally, something in Pike Auditorium really is not much different than having Chapel with the lights dimmed. But Journey is the type of guy that wants to see everyone having a good time, and his performance echoes that. Journey had no problem talking with the audience before he had to walk backstage to appear for the first performance.
Journey began to play harp at around 15 years old. Soon after, he was playing at classy restaurants in the Seattle area. He has become a harp virtuoso and is very knowledgeable in regards to the history, operation and general design of the harp. He alternated between two harps that he brought. The most commonly used harp was the pedal harp, the smaller harp is known as a Celtic harp.
Most of the songs Journey played sounded familiar, although it is odd to hear things coming through a harp that you would normally expect from a different instrument. Bronn made sure that the audience was entertained and by playing songs that people were familiar with he was able to achieve that.
One of the special things that Journey likes to do is to maintain a sense of humor throughout the performance. He likes to tell jokes and he keeps the audience entertained.
His wife, Katherine, accompanies him on the piano, and she also sings. The most memorable song was "Somewhere Over the Rainbow." The last song that they performed together was from "The Phantom Of The Opera." On this particular song, Katherine was able to show just how well she can sing.
Bolivar Live is a great idea. It gives the people of Bolivar a chance to hear great live music, and the operating makes the concerts surprisingly affordable.
Together, the Journey couple combined to make a wonderfully inviting atmosphere, and they put on a great show.
Hopefully, the next time Bolivar Live comes back to Pike, more will desire to attend.
