Dr. Bob Derryberry, senior professor of communication arts, presented the address.
Norma Bishop, part-time SBU staff member, was the recipient of an honorary doctorate in education. Bishop completed her undergraduate degree at SWBC in 1936 and began a lifelong teaching career.
Bishop worked as an adjunct faculty member at SBU, teaching in the education department until 1982, then became a full-time faculty member.
Pat Baker, author, presented Bishop's honorary doctorate. A long time friend, Baker describe Bishop as a person who "didn't come to be served, but to serve."
"I believe God is pleased with the way she has lived the life God has given her," said Baker.
Upon receiving the doctorate, Bishop said, "My heart leaps with joy, and I can give thanks."
Charles Edward Graham, founder of Charles Graham Ministries, was the recipient of an honorary doctorate in music ministry.
Graham attended SBU for two years, and felt God's call to full-time ministry.
Graham's music ministry has taken him throughout the United States and to several countries including England, Scotland, Wales, Norway, Germany, France, Canada, Israel, Africa and South America.
Graham enjoys the opportunity to minister to young people in group settings such as camps and retreats, or one-on-one helping them to develop a more personal relationship with God.
Graham has produced eight recordings, including his latest release You Amaze Me.
Ron Maupin, vice president of Administration, presented Graham with the honorary doctorate.
"It is truly an honor and a privilege," said Graham. "True success is when God can say you've honored His will for your life."
