In case you have not noticed, the greatest sport in the history of mankind begins a new season this week.
One knows the season is going to be crazy when one team spends nearly 300 million bucks on free agents, another spends $50 million for the rights to talk to a pitcher, and ... well, maybe I should not make a St. Louis joke here.
Anyway, with the season starting, I thought I would give you a heads up on some great web sites to look at to get you pumped for the upcoming baseball season.

Baseball-Reference.com - The single greatest statistical web site known to mankind. There is not other place you can go where you can find out when the last time someone hit three triples in a game. (Rafael Furcal in April of 2002. The first two were off of Florida's Kevin Olsen and the last off Vic Darensbourg. These triples were the only ones given up by Olsen for the entire season.)
Maybe you want to know how well George Brett hit against Ed Figueroa. One may find that Brett had a .610 batting average against Figueroa, including going 11 for 11 with two walks in his first 13 plate appearances. One may start worshiping Mike Bielecki because Barry Bonds is two for 35 against Bielecki in his career.
There are a million things one could find here. Its amazing.

Soul of Baseball - Ever wondered what Roy Hobbs scouting report might look like? Well, Joe Posnanski, a columnist for the Kansas City Star, took a shot at it. Posnanski's blog is a gem. Posnanski brought in several writers from around the country to break down each division earlier this month. He has also pondered such questions as whether or not Willie Wilson was the fastest base-runner ever, the Hall of Fame voting system and wrote a blog comparing Michigan J. Frog to former Royal Ambiorix Burgos. It is all brilliant.

Baseball Think Factory - Baseball Think Factory is a great place to discuss things about your favorite team. I have no idea who runs this site, but they seem to know every web site known to man that talks about one's favorite team. For this, I like them.

Baseball Analysts - Nearly every great baseball writer in the country has either written or has a link on this site. If you want indepth information about baseball, this is the place to get it.

Deadspin - The people of the New York media started a blog that focuses on all things sports. This is not a site devoted to just baseball, but it does give good sites to visit and other links to check out things not only about baseball, but every other sport.
I would also suggest reading the Sports Guy's column on ESPN.com.
Baseball and the internet, two great things about America. And, I promise you, Al Gore had nothing to do with the creation of either.
