Men's tennis team maintains national ranking

With the meet score tied 4-4, the 'Cats needed just one win in their two remaining singles matches. Unfortunately, that win never came as Kacamakis (5-7, 6-4, 4-6) and El Alabi (5-7, 6-2, 2-6), the 'Cats top singles players, both fell in three sets, leaving SBU (5-4) on the short end of a 5-4 loss.
In a March 15 meeting with nationally-ranked Midwestern State (18th), a Division II opponent, the 'Cats (5-5) fell 7-2 in a meet that saw every singles match go the minimum two sets. Prerad (6-1, 6-3) got SBU's single singles victory with Kacamakis / Mollar (8-2) picking up the 'Cats lone doubles win.
Meeting Graceland University (13th) the next day, the 'Cats found themselves on the short end of a 3-0 deficit after losses in their three doubles matches. The 'Cats got singles wins from Mollar (2-6, 6-3, 10-4) and Prerad (6-3, 6-3) but fell in their other matches, giving GU a 7-2 win.
Following their tough 1-3 home stand, the 'Cats (5-6) began a spring break road trip that had the team playing four meets in four days. The trip began with a March 20 MIAA dual against nationally-ranked Northwest Missouri State (39th).
The meet started with Prerad / El Alabi (8-5) winning one of the three doubles matches. Kacamakis (6-3, 6-4), Mollar (6-2, 7-5) and Prerad (6-0, 4-6, 7-6) each got wins in singles, but El Alabi (6-7, 6-1, 6-7), Mohadeb (4-6, 2-6) and AuBuchon (0-6, 1-6) all suffered losses as Northwest claimed a 5-4 win.
Traveling to Kansas City the day after, the 'Cats (5-7 overall and 0-1 in MIAA play) got back on the winning track with a 5-4 win over Rockhurst. El Alabi / Prerad (8-5) and Mohadeb / AuBuchon (8-3) picked up doubles victories with Mollar (6-3, 4-6, 6-1), Prerad (6-2, 6-4) and Mohadeb (6-3, 6-1) all coming up winners in singles.
Leaving Kansas City, the 'Cats (6-7 and 0-1) traveled to Atchison, Kan. to meet NAIA nationally-ranked Benedictine (11th).
In the meet, Kacamakis / Mollar (8-4) got a win for the 'Cats in doubles. In singles, the 'Cats managed to split the six matches with Kacamakis (7-6, 7-6), Mollar (6-3, 6-1) and Prerad (6-2, 7-5) all winning in straight sets. With El Alabi (6-7, 7-5, 1-6), Mohadeb (3-6, 5-7) and AuBuchon (0-6, 1-6) all absorbing losses, however, the 'Cats found themselves on the short end of 5-4 score.
On the final day of their road trip, the 'Cats (6-7 and 0-1) traveled back to Maryville to meet the University of Nebraska-Kearney.

Played on indoor courts, the meet was stopped due to court costs after SBU (7-8) grabbed a 5-1 lead, which then became the meet's final score.
Up next for SBU is a 10 a.m. Saturday, March 31 meet with St. Cloud State in Maryville. SBU will then travel to Springfield to take on nationally-ranked Drury (2nd) at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, April 5.
The 'Cats next home meet will be at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 9 against MIAA foe Emporia State.
