"In the first 3 days of the facebook group, we had 137 members," said Karamitros. "Right now, we have 144 and all we've done is have a few meetings. In fact, we even have some members who are alumni and students at other universities who want to get involved in this. It was quite inspiring to see the amount of interest in this organization in the early stages of development."
The group hopes to have its first public meeting Friday, April 20 to discuss Arbor Day.
"We want to discuss Arbor Day and motivate students to help us plant some trees (due to the ice storm) on the SBU campus and in our community on Arbor Day, the following Friday," said Karamitros.
"This organization is open to anyone," added Karamitros. "Our purpose is not to have a biased agenda. We want all people to come and offer an opinion, whether it be Deomocrat, Republican, Libertarian, Socialist, Pacifist or whatever. We just want students to come together and talk about issues that are important and pertain to our society, culture and world and do something about it," said Karamitros.
Karamitros will have a busy senior year, but I believe she will overcome the challenges she has laid out for herself.
