University to offer Interdisciplinary Studies major

As a liberal arts institution, Southwest Baptist University strives to provide students with the widest variety of degrees and classes available. It is impossible for any institution to meet the dreams and aspirations of a creatively energetic generation with applicable majors for every dream and aspiration.

Karamitros wins

Elections were held Wednesday, April 11 for the offices of Student Government Association president, vice president, secretary and treasurer. For the first time in years, there were contested races for each office. The candidates for president were senior Ivry Karamitros and current sophomore class president David Kellogg.

Students celebrate International Day during Chapel Wednesday

Southwest Baptist University international students were spotlighted during a special International chapel service Wednesday, April 4. Chapel coincided with other activities marking International Day, including an international meal in Mellers Dining Commons.

Bolivar community re-elects mayor Ealy

Mayor Charles Ealy will serve the city of Bolivar for another four years. The 10-year incumbent was re-elected by city voters in the April 3 Bolivar Municipal Election. In a two-way race, Ealy defeated challenger Larry W. Crites, receiving 556 votes to Crites' 432.

SIFE places at regional competition

For the first time in 23 years, the Southwest Baptist Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) team did not bring home a championship from the annual SIFE USA Regional Competition. The team did, however, bring home a trophy, $1,000 in prize money and a first runner-up finish from the 2007 USA Regional held March 30 in Rogers, Arkansas.

Faculty member to present results

Dr. Tim DeClue, professor and chair of the Southwest Baptist University Computer and Information Sciences (CIS) Department, has been invited to share the results of a specialized teaching project at the Central Plains Regional (CPR) meeting of the Consortium for Computing Sciences in Colleges (CCSC).

Commencement to be held May 19

Students planning to graduate in Southwest Baptist University's May commencement ceremony should have received graduation information letters in late March from the Office of the Provost. Students who have not yet received their letters should contact Linda Mayberry, administrative assistant to the provost at 328-1601, or come by the Office of the Provost, located in the Sells Administrative Center.

SGA plans annual Mozarkian dinner

The Southwest Baptist University Student Government Association announced at the Monday night meeting that this year's Mozarkian will feature instructional line dancing. The event will be at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 21 McClelland Dining Facility. The menu for the dinner is New York strip steak, BBQ chicken, potatoes, beans, corn, salad, jalapeno cheese cornbread and apple pie.

Bolivar Area Chamber of Commerce elects Smith

Sharina Smith, senior director of marketing and communications at Southwest Baptist University, was recently elected as one of six new board members for the Bolivar Area Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber of Commerce encourages SBU, a corporate sponsor of the chamber, to send a representative from the University to serve as a board member.

Phi Eta Sigma comes to SBU

One hundred seventy-six students to be inducted

Southwest Baptist University recently approved a new honor's society on campus. Phi Eta Sigma, an honor society for high achieving freshmen, will soon include 176 SBU students in its over 881,142 students across the country. Allison Langford, director of the Honors Program, was instrumental in bringing this national honor society to the University.
