The team did, however, bring home a trophy, $1,000 in prize money and a first runner-up finish from the 2007 USA Regional held March 30 in Rogers, Arkansas.
"I am very proud of our team," said senior Kristina Penland, SBU SIFE president. "Even though competition is important, it was not our main goal. The SIFE mission is to change lives, and I believe our team has achieved that mission this year."
At the Rogers Regional, one of 17 nationwide SIFE competitions held in March and April, SBU competed in a five-team division that included Missouri Western State, Alcorn State, Truman State and College of the Ozarks.
A total of 22 Midwest schools competed at the Regional, including Missouri State, Missouri Baptist, Oral Roberts, Pittsburg State, Central Arkansas, Central Missouri, William Jewell College and the University of Arkansas.
According to Dr. Susan DeBauche, SIFE advisor, professor and chair of SBU's Department of Business Administration, Southwest Baptist's string of 22 consecutive regional championships may have been the longest streak of its kind in the nation.
"The SBU SIFE team has one of the longest, if not the longest, winning streaks of regional championships," said DeBauche . "This record, unfortunately, cannot be verified by SIFE because their archives are not complete."
With a victory at the Rogers Regional, SBU would have qualified for the annual SIFE USA National Exposition.
