"If the Shoe Fits" is a hilarious piece about a shoe salesman and his lover and their plot to kill his lover's husband, collect the insurance and run off to Tahiti. The story unfolds with loads of physical comedy, a Latino house maid getting in the way and many failed murder attempts.
Roger Abbot, Southwest Baptist University employee Brenda Abbot's husband, plays the role of George, the shoe salesman.
Abbot had me rolling on the floor with his comedic timing, physical comedy and hilarious facial expressions.
Bolivar resident Melinda Hackleman plays George's counter part, Delores. Hackleman made a great decesion to make her character a whinier version of a Lucielle Ball who wants to kill her husband.
Sylvia Wood teaches English as a second language to Spanish speaking children attending Bolivar schools. Fluent in Spanish and a lover for the arts, she knew she had to audition for the part of Esperanza, the Spanish speaking housemaid.
Watching Wood attempt to seduce Abbot's character was the funniest thing I have seen for a long time. Former SBU student Aaron Vines plays the part of Marvin, the oblivious husband of Delores, whom they plot to kill. Vines plays his character very well.
The show was very enjoyable and had me laughing non-stop. The Walnut Theatre Association proves that Bolivar's talent is not limited to those who attend SBU.
Show times for April 20-22 and 27-29 are 7:30 p.m. Ticket prices are $10 for adults and $6 for children 10 and under.
The Walnut Street Theatre has recently been renovated, and the association hopes to provide many more shows for the Bolivar area. They are open for anyone who wants to be involved in theatre to find their outlet at the Walnut Street Theatre, whether backstage or on. Auditions for the next show, "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" will be April 30 and May 1 at 7 p.m., all ages are welcome.

I was just wondering why sometimes Walnut Street's productions are mentioned in the paper and sometimes they are not even when there are SBU students in the plays. (Continued…)

Brittany, I think space is usually the main reason for a lot of events in Bolivar to not be covered. Usually we write about events directly related to SBU, then move out into the events of the community and so on, until we run out of room. (Continued…)
