SGA releases budget allocations for fall 2007 semester

With the Student Government Association Cabinet elections behind them, SGA at Southwest Baptist University took on the second major project for April, Student Activity Fee budget allocations. Incumbent Student Body Treasurer junior Brian Maloy headed the financial committee who approved Student Activity Fee allocations for 33 SBU clubs and organizations.
The committee held budget hearings Tuesday and Wednesday, April 15-16 for those clubs and organizations requesting budget increases. The committee met Thursday, April 17 to evaluate the requests and formulate a budget to present to the members of SGA at their weekly meeting. The members of SGA voted with no opposing votes to accept the budget proposed by those of the committee.
Each SBU student pays a $90 Student Activity Fee per year, averaging $45 a semester. The budget allocations are based on a projected Student Activity Fee budget for the fall 2007 and spring 2008 semesters, which is based on projected enrollment. The projected enrollment for fall 2007 is 1,460, which would make the projected Student Activity Fee budget $65,700 for the fall semester. The projected enrollment for spring 2008 is 1,300, which amounts to a projected $58,500 Student Activity Fee budget. The total projected Student Activity Fee budget for 2007-2008 is $124, 200.
Among the larger clubs and organizations receiving funds are Emerging Musicians United (EMU) receiving $2,476; Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), $2,000; Mozarkian, $4,500; The Omnibus, $25,000.20; Raise Your Voice, $2,250; SGA, $53,637.80; Student Publications, $5,400, and the Theatre Department, $10,000.
The funds will be used for the improvement of the clubs and organizations to which they will be allocated. EMU will put part of their budget toward purchasing new equipment for the organization. Raise Your Voice, a new organization, will use their budget for student service activities.
The 33 clubs / organizations receiving Student Activity Fee Budget Allocations include Alpha Chi, $1; Association of Computing Machinery (ACM), $800; Behavioral Science Club, $530; Chi Sigma Theta (Theatre), $600; Christian Knights Chess & Strategic Games Club, $200; Christian Service (CSO), $1,425; College Republicans, $225; Da Vine Student Ministry, $1,250; Delta Epsilon Chi (Accounting Club), $400; Emerging Musicians United (EMU), $2,476; Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), $850; Fencing Club, $2,000; Habitat for Humanity, $750; International Club, $500; Intramural sports, $1,000; Mozarkian, $4,500; The Omnibus, $25,000.20; Phi Beta Lambda (PBL), $1,500; Phi Eta Sigma (Freshman Honors), $1,300; Pre-Health Society, $300; Psi Chi, $500; Raise You Voice, $2,250; Residence Life, $500; Run 2 Win, $700; SGA, $53,637.80; SIFE, $1,700; Sociology and Criminal Justice Society, $0; Soccer - Men's Club, $1,750; Student Missouri State Teachers Association (SMSTA), $280; Student Publications, $5,400; Students Serving Other Students (SSOS), $375; Theater Department, $10,000, and University Missions, $1,500.
