Southwest Baptist University students voted in favor of the Student Government Association restructure at the SGA elections Wednesday, April 18.
One hundred ninety students voted for the re-structure, which will separate SGA into two parts. Under the new system, the cabinet (president, vice president, secretary and treasurer) will be a completely separate entity from committee chairs. Eleven voted against the re-structure.
"There is a re-structuring process that needs to be voted on," said Student Body President, senior Laura Towner. "This is to help SGA function more as a governing body and for a potential activities council to focus more on quality activities."
Other items voted on at the election were the candidates for the 2007 Mozarkian and class officers for the 2007-08 school year.
Towner, seniors Emily Love, Rachael Krueger, Ryan Puls, Jarrod Kingston and Thomas Summers are this year's candidates for Mozarkian king and queen.
Sophomore Rebecca Koe was elected class president and sophomore Kyle Brosseau was elected class vice president after running uncontested.
SGA did not receive petitions from students for other offices. According to student body secretary junior Liz Hood, the remaining offices will remain vacant for the time being.
"The other offices will be vacant until people decide to ... run for them," said Hood. "[If someone runs,] they are unopposed, [they] will be appointed to positions."
Students interested in running for sophomore class secretary or treasurer, junior class president, vice president, secretary or treasurer or senior class president, vice president, secretary or treasurer are encouraged to contact an SGA cabinet member.
Students interested in becoming committee chairs should sign up for an interview on the sheets on the door of the SGA office located in Goodson Student Union.
