Starting as a simple assignment for sophomore Aaron Streeter and seven others, interest grew, and contacts were made. Through the contacts of friends and friends of friends around Bolivar, enough interest was generated to begin planning an actual event. Once SGA came into the picture, it was only a matter of time before the dream became a reality.
The Polk County Humane Society Charity Drive is a benefit to treat the overpopulation of dogs in Bolivar and surrounding areas.
"The profit and donations are going to the improvement of the old facility and maybe even a new facility," said Streeter. "But the main gist of the show is to educate the community from the overpopulation of dogs in this town."
The concert will take place April 23 and will feature Bolivar High School sophomore Joe Still, freshman Atley Black, sophomore Philip Enloe (Yo-Yo Man) and the Kansas City Band, Give Me Sound, not to mention, the dogs themselves.
Hosts for the event will be sophomore Bryce Blankenship and junior Stacey Minshall.
"There is not much sponsoring involved other than those who are hosting it," noted Streeter. "Each artist is doing their work for free to help the humane society."
The desire to host this event grew out of the desire to see canine rescue in Polk County and to save the Humane Society building.
When asked what motivated this event, Streeter noted, "Why? Have you seen the place? You have to see it to believe it."
It is the dream of eight people that will be realized on April 23, and they invite all who are passionate about helping the Humane Society - or are simply fans of good music.
