EMU will team with Student Government Association Concert Committee to put on EMU Fest Saturday, April 21. EMU Fest is an all-day concert benefiting the anti-depression group To Write Love on Her Arms.
The concert will begin at noon and feature an outdoor set of acoustic / solo artists from SBU and the Bolivar community. There are 16 individuals and bands set to play at EMU Fest. Some of the artists on the bill include freshmen Atley Black, Joe Moore, Andrew Reeves, sophomore Dustin Gamble and Bolivar High School sophomore Joe Still.
The outdoor session of the festival will be held in the field in front of Casebolt Apartments and will last until 6 p.m. At 8 p.m. EMU Fest will move its operations into Ingman Hall to host John Holiday, Give Me Sound and Ontario Whiteside.
There will also be barbeque and volleyball available to those in attendance.
For those who wish to only attend the outdoor session or only the indoor session, the cost will be $3 for admission and food. The entire all day event cost will be $5. All proceeds from EMU Fest will go to benefit To Write Love on Her Arms.
Moore is also already making plans for EMU's future next year at SBU.
"Next year, I definitely want to have more shows. Whenever we submitted our budget request, we submitted a request to allow for one show a month … And I want to continue to organize and buy new equipment to, you know, finish that out. I'm [also] hoping to do more with SGA Concert Committee to get larger groups into Ingman to have medium sized touring shows and have EMU bands open for them. We would work together with SGA a lot more and keep that communication open.
"[EMU] could provide a place for bands that are too small for Pike [Auditorium], but too large for [Goodson Student Union]," added Moore. "They would be perfect for Ingman Hall. Also, it would be a great opportunity for our band to open for some of these touring acts that come through SBU. It would be a great opportunity for SBU bands to, kind of, meet and network with nationally touring artists. So, it will benefit both organizations."
