2008 Woodie Awards
Pike Auditorium was graced with three incredible jazz ensembles Thursday, April 19. Two bands from Bolivar High School (Jazz Lab, directed by Shane Knupps; and Jazz Band, directed by Steve McClard) teamed up with the Southwest Baptist University Jazz Ensemble to create a night of foot-tapping jazz that left the crowd with smiles on their faces and tunes in their ears.
The Southwest Baptist University Department of Music held a concert unlike any other in Pike Auditorium Tuesday, April 24. The lights were dim, as usual; the podiums and piano were sitting on stage, just like any other night. But this time something was different, everything seemed so relaxed, there was no sense of tension, no uncomfortable feeling one gets when sitting in an uptight concert.
I'm going to go ahead and say it: EMU Fest was the best show Southwest Baptist University has ever had. Over 16 different acts, a diverse selection of music and a day-long event to benefit the anti-depression organization To Write Love On Her Arms combined to make one heck of a Saturday.
