aptist University is something that most people do not think about. The mail comes and goes, and somehow it lands in our mailboxes.
Whether it is bills, or money from Grandma, chances are, Kenneth Roberts has been involved with in one way or another.
Kenneth Roberts, mailroom coordinator at SBU since 1980, is retiring at the end of this month. He has worked in the SBU mailroom for 27 years.
In the few months that Jim Hillman has been around Kenneth Roberts, he noticed something about Roberts that is hard to find.
"He is everything that you would want an employee to be, he exhibits every trait that you would expect from an employee," said Hillman. "He's respectful, honest, hard working, and most of all, he's dependable."
Hillman says that Roberts rarely misses work, and he rarely goes on vacation, is very easy to get along with and is very friendly.
Roberts was in charge of the postage that is put on the package, he makes sure that there are not any erroneous addresses in the system, does the annual report of mail charges (a big financial part of SBU's mail system), trains new employees and maintains the equipment that the mailroom uses on a daily basis.
Roberts lives in Springfield, and makes the commute every day to the SBU mail room.
Hillman says that Roberts will be missed, and that they are trying to keep him around for days on which other employees cannot work.
He is model employee and he leaves big shoes to fill. Roberts is a very shy man, he is not the type for fanfare, or big ceremonies.
He didn't want to have a retirement ceremony, so on behalf of The Omnibus, I would like to thank Roberts for his service, and dependability.
