"It was great spending a whole night with friends and thinking about cancer cures," said junior Liz Robinson.
Other games included the crocodile hunter, dodge ball, a pie eating contest and knockout. There was a 5 a.m. workout session to help the all-nighters regain energy for the last few hours. Da Vine hosted a dance clinic, and one of the teams offered massages.
One of the most outrageous games had volunteers put the end of a pair of panty hose over their entire head and proceeded to push a banana through the tiny holes of the panty hose.
"I am pretty sure no one would have won if Vicki hadn't have cheated," said freshman Nathan Brown. "She chewed a whole through the panty hose."
"My least favorite part was watching people eating bananas through panty hose, but I did enjoy watching Nathan Brown enjoy the banana," commented Robinson.
SBU's 2007 Relay For Life raised at least $13,500 for cancer research. Due to a computer malfunction, the exact amount is still unknown. Money was raised from online donations, letter donations, luminaries and the proceeds from products such as massages, face painting, bracelets, cappuccinos and other events like Queen of the Relay.
Also, each attendant that was not a part of a team was required to pay a $5 cover charge.
"Various donors were Domino's Pizza, Krispy Kreme, Sonic, McDonalds, Pizza Hut, Speedway Lanes, Sherri's Shaved Ice, El Rodeo, SBU Bookstore, and Fresh Ideas Catering Services," said Shepard.
The overall goal for donations was $20,000. That has not currently been met, but money is continuing to flow in even after the event.
