Josh is from Lone Jack, Mo. and is studying history, the same as his brother did. James was deployed to Iraq in April 2003 and returned March 2004. James has gone to Fort Rucker, Ala., to flight school where he is learning how to fly Black Hawk helicopters.
Josh joined the United States Army Reserves March 13, 2003 and graduated from BASIC in January 2004. He said it was a sense of duty that led him to join.
"I just felt that since I was an able-bodied young man, I should serve," said Josh.
Josh was given the choice to deploy to Iraq this year or wait. With pending legislation that could start the end of the war, Josh chose to go sooner rather than later. He is excited about the opportunity he has to use his skills and training to serve the United States and the people of Iraq.
The reasons [the war in Iraq started] are irrelevant now," said Josh. "I am all about making this country the best it can be. That's what we're ultimately there for."
After his deployment, Josh plans on returning to SBU to finish his undergraduate degree in history and then apply to law school. He says he will continue to stay in the Army Reserves while pursuing a career in law as long as he can successfully juggle the two.
"Eventually I will give up the Army, which is sad because I really enjoy it."
