SGA releases allocation budget information

Over the past several weeks since the Student Government Association released the Student Activity Fee allocation budget, students have expressed concerns as to why some clubs / organizations receive so little an allocation, while others receive large ones.

The 2007-2008 Student Government Association Executive Cabinet announced the 2007-2008 Activities Council Monday, April 30 and Tuesday, May 1. The Activities Council consists of four chair positions: concerts, major events, campus activities and publicity.

Renovation underway in Student Union

It is more than evident that Southwest Baptist University's Goodson Student Union is undergoing renovations. Construction teams began the early stages of renovations in the bathrooms across from Mellers Dining Commons Wednesday, April 18. "There will be more stalls," said Rob Harris, dean of students.

Although several honor societies to recognize top scholars exist on campus, an 84-year-old freshman honor society recently made its way to Southwest Baptist University. SBU's new chapter of Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society inducted 176 students in its first ceremony Thursday, April 26.

Students take on athletes in respective sports in first ever Pros vs. Joes competition

Over 150 Southwest Baptist Unversity students gathered on the Burnidge Memorial Forum April 30 to compete against SBU's athletes in the University's first Pros vs. Joes. Sponsored by the Student Athletic Advisory Committee, the competition modeled the popular television show in which three average American citizens compete against five American athletes in events related to the sport in which that athlete is involved.

Crouse wins design contest

Every year Southwest Baptist University holds a parking sticker design contest to choose the design of next year's sticker. Junior Mat Crouse's design was chosen as the winner of this year's contest. Crouse feels his design "is a better representation of the SBU campus.

Writing Contest Awards Night honors students

The Department of Language and Literature hosted the annual Writing Contest Awards Night Monday, April 23 in Davis-Newport Theater in Jester Learning and Performance Center to honor the top contenders and winners of the 2007 Southwest Baptist University Department of Language and Literature Writing Contest.
