Renovation underway in Student Union

Ian Paterson

Issue date: 5/4/07 Section: News
Once again, as in the case of the Union bathroom renovations, the main construction has to take place over the summer, when there are the least amount of students on campus.
"We can't get started on Woody-Gott until students move out for the summer," said Dutile.
There has already been money allocated to fix the leaks in the roofs of many buildings on campus.
Maupin noted at the Cherry Coke Break that many of these leaks did not exist prior to the severe ice storm that put the campus out of operation for several days in January.
The largest notable leak is the gaping hole in the ceiling of Casebolt Music Center, in which there is a steady flow of water leaking into a plastic trash can.
"Casebolt will be the first classroom building we [renovate] this summer," said Maupin. "Because we would like to use the trash can some place else."
While students are excited to see renovations happening both in the Union and in Woody-Gott, answers as to when the maintenance issues caused by the ice storm are still up in the air.
"I don't know that you can guarantee that you won't have leakage in the future, but … [we are working money] into the budget for roof renovations," said Maupin. "With the manpower, we are still trying to track down leaks that occur."
