Over the past several weeks since the Student Government Association released the Student Activity Fee allocation budget, students have expressed concerns as to why some clubs / organizations receive so little an allocation, while others receive large ones.
The total projected Student Activity Fee budget of $124,000 was allocated to 32 different campus clubs / organizations. The allocations ranged from $1 to $53,637.80.
The big-ticket organizations include Da Vine Student Ministry, $1,250; Emerging Musicians United (EMU), $2,476; Fencing Club, $2,000; Intramural Sports, $1,000; Mozarkian, $4,500; The Omnibus, $25,000.20; Raise Your Voice, $2,250; SGA, $53,637.80; Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE), $1,700; Men's Soccer Club, $1,750; Student Publications, $5,400; Theater Department, $10,0000, and University Missions, $1,500.
"I'm confused as to why the missions department receives so little when students have to raise a lot of money to go on trips," expressed one student.
"Why does SGA get so much money?" questioned another student.
"Where does the intramural money go?" asked a third student.
All of these and other questions are easy to explain. The SGA budget committee receives budget proposals from each club / organization.
The committee gave some organizations the amount requested, and others received a lesser amount than originally requested.
Da Vine Student Ministry requested $1,865 and received $1,250, 1.01 percent of the Student Activity Fee budget.
According to Da Vine's budget proposal, the money allocated will go toward office renovations, office supplies, the Black White Party, Black History Month activities and other smaller activities for group members.
EMU requested and received $2,476, 1.99 percent of the Student Activity Fee budget.
According to EMU's budget proposal, the money allocated will go toward the production of various concerts. Of the budget, $1,000 will go toward publicity and other production costs. EMU will purchase sound and lighting equipment amounting to $1,076.
