Competing in flood-like conditions, the Southwest Baptist women's track-and-field team readied themselves for the MIAA Championships.
Leading the way for the Lady 'Cats was freshman Jennifer Gillespie. Gillespie won the 200-meter dash (26.57 seconds) and finished second in the 400-meter dash (58.45).
Also having a strong showing was the consistent 800-duo of junior Alyssa Maggart and freshman Mallory Roth. Maggart finished third (2 minutes, 16.40) while Roth broke the 2:18 barrier for the first time (2:17.89) and finished fifth. With these times, Maggart and Roth head into the conference meet ranked third and sixth respectively.
In the 1,500-meter run, freshman Chelsea Strahm was the first Bearcat to cross the line in a time of 4:56.06.
With the MIAA Championships on the docket for this weekend, the Lady Bearcats will look to Maggart and their talented freshmen to propel them up from the depths of the MIAA.
The conference track meet will be held on the campus of Fort Hays State Saturday and Sunday, May 5 in Hays, Kansas.
