Southwest Baptist University's missions office received the Courts Redford Award for Excellence in Student Missionary Deployment during missions commission Chapel May 7. The award, given by the North American Mission Board (NAMB), is presented to mission agencies that excel in student deployment.
Renovations on the Jim Mellers Center are scheduled to be completed in June. According to Dr. Rodney Reeves, dean of the Courts Redford College of Theology and Christian Ministry, faculty will begin moving into the building at the beginning of June, and the first use of the building will be by students in the fall semester.
Juniors Aaron Weaver and Jessica Gibler were named the 2007-2008 Mr. and Miss Southwest at the Student Government Association turnover chapel May 9. "I know they will represent SBU in a great way next year," said Student Body Vice President junior Kristen Blinzler.
Members of the Southwest Baptist University Staff Council were scattered across campus Friday, May 4 to beautify the University in anticipation of the May 19 graduation. Organized by Marinell Erven, administrative assistant to the dean of the College of Business and Computer Science, staff members spent the day cleaning the campus and having fellowship with other staff members.
When sophomore Amy Swallow flew in from the United Kingdom to visit Southwest Baptist University April 19, it was a very special visit, one that couldn't happen quickly enough for the rest of her soccer team. "When Amy arrived, she was welcomed with an emotional reunion from her teammates," said Mike Pitts, SBU sports information director.
