Juniors Aaron Weaver and Jessica Gibler were named the 2007-2008 Mr. and Miss Southwest at the Student Government Association turnover chapel May 9.
"I know they will represent SBU in a great way next year," said Student Body Vice President junior Kristen Blinzler.
Weaver and Gibler will represent SBU in various activities, including the annual Homecoming parade.
To be eligible for this award, students must be graduating at the end of the May 2008 semester. Mr. and Miss Southwest candidates must attend SBU each fall and spring semester of their college career, and should have 64 or more credit hours.
All students meeting these requirements are consolidated on a list and given to each faculty and staff member who then select one male student and one female student.
The three who received the most votes were put on a ballot for election by students.
The three male finalists were juniors Jonathan Antle, Devin Pritchard and Weaver. Female finalists included juniors Gibler, Lauren Hodson and Stephanie Smith. Approximately 125 students voted in the May 2 election.
The 2006-2007 Mr. and Miss Southwest were seniors Jaben Houk and Quiana James.
"I was surprised. It is a big honor," said Gibler.
